Trout
For wild brown trout, Loch Awe is in an unrivalled location for the beginner and seasoned trout angler alike. Most fish caught are 'pan-size (or less!). But in recent years the British record was landed three times at Ardbrecknish. Casts of both the 1996 and 2000 record wild brown trout are on display in the bar.

On March 15 2002, the record was broken again; Brian Rutland landed a 31lb 10oz wild brown trout at Ardbrecknish on the first day of the 2002 season. Congratulations Brian!!

Coarse fishing
The pike on Loch Awe are legendary. Most coarse fishing anglers who come to Loch Awe are after these hard fighting predators. However, there are also perch, eels and roach.

About Loch Awe
Loch Awe is a magical place, away from the crowds and noisy water sports. The longest freshwater loch in Britain, it has many quiet islands and bays. The loch is truly for anglers with thriving fish populations and a range of unspoilt freshwater habitats. All fishing is managed by the Loch Awe Improvement Association (L.A.I.A.) and their permits can be bought in the bar at Ardbrecknish. The loch is not stocked, but native fish stocks are conserved and enhanced by The Awe Fisheries Trust.

Former British Record Brown Trout landed at Ardbrecknish on July 20, 2000. Caught by Ken Oliver of Barrhead Glasgow, this female Brownie took 30 minutes to land and weighed in at 30lb 8oz, was 40" long, 24" in girth and aged 10-11 years
